Exposition – historical reconstruction «The battle at Lesnoy. 300 years»

25 September – 11 December

The 28th of September 2008 the Battle at Lesnoy will turn 300; it was one of the most important victories of Peter’s army. It is this battle that arranged success of the Russian troops in the Battle of Poltava that in its turn determined the ultimate outcome of the war to the good of Russia.

Not in vain did Peter write about this victory - «And indeed she is the result of all favorable outcomes in Russia … and mother of the Battle of Poltava».

Vladimir Zhukov. Jubilee in State Russian Museum.

Avant-garde for Zhukov is history and he doesn’t pretend to represent it, to be a “creator of non-existent” as called by the left-wing artists of 1920s. Traces of avant-garde movement, if found in his paintings do not claim to possess a demiurgic quality and conceptual universality of their symbolics. A certain level of abstraction is present in Zhukov’s work simply as a way to expand the associative semantic field of the painting. Its main goal though is the disclosure of those personal sensations that create an intimate connection between the artist and the world that surrounds him.

Dear Friends, we invite you to visit our Exhibition The Mystery of the Sunken Ships. The Battle of Vyborg”.

217 years ago in the waters of the Vyborg Gulf the greatest battle in the centuries-old history of the Baltic Sea took place. Nor up to that time neither after Russia and Sweden had not sent so many ships, more than three hundred burgees and forty five thousand Swedish soldiers had faced two hundred Russian ships and twenty five thousand Russian defenders. As the historians say much has been staked on that great fight, the result of the whole war depended on that sea battle. The Swedes locked in the Gulf had to make their way through Russian flotilla at any cost, and at the same time the Russians had to hold back an enemies attack.
